It's possible that you were there personally in Miag-ao for the Lantern of Peace event last year or it might be that you only heard about it or saw it on TV and the internet news. This time around there are tidbits of information for another undertaking and that is the Light of Peace 2014. You are interested but might not really know the details. So here it goes.
There are two ways in which you can be a part of the event.
First, you can be a volunteer. Volunteering means doing more than what others are doing right now. The Light of Peace event actually needs a lot of volunteers and when I say a lot that means around 17 thousand people. You have to remember that the event aims to gather a hundred thousand people and to be able to facilitate everything thousands are also needed to the preparation and the actual work on April 14th. Not only that, there is also a need for more people to invite other people to participate. You can choose which kind of volunteer you will be. You can be a field volunteer and help out in the various tasks before, on and and after the event or you can be a volunteer leader who will invite family members, friends, co-workers, acquaintances and even strangers to take part in this historic event. If you opt to go beyond and do more, then you can always go to the Light of Peace Center in Guzman St., Mandurriao, Iloilo City.
There are also volunteers who will be part of the flaming image in itself. They will be right in the middle of everything because they will be lighting up the candles that would form the map of the Philippines, the Inner Peace symbol and the frame. Tentatively, these volunteers will be those who are from the schools under the supervision of CHED (Commission on Higher Education), TESDA or Technical Education and Skills Development Authority and the Department of Education. In case, the number would not be enough volunteers from other groups will be on hand to fill in the vacant slots.
If you don't want to be a volunteers for any reason you can also be there as a participant. All you would need to do is to have an event pass that would allow you to enter the venue which is Savannah City in Oton, Iloilo. You can get this from the booths which are located in strategic parts of the city. Any amount donated will be enough for you to get one but if you give a higher amount you might be able to get some freebies like a Crystal Ball of Success or a T-shirt. If you come as a participant then you can just bask in being there during the event.
Just in case you have questions you may check out the booth nearest you or just go to the Light of Peace center itself. Thai and Filipino volunteers manning these places will gladly answer your inquiries.
Be counted. Be a part of the Light of Peace 2014.
